Dear Students and Parents,

We are excited to announce the start up of Christ Lutheran’s Confirmation program for the 2009-2010 school year.   We will follow a similar Confirmation design to the one that was so successful last year.

All 7th and 8th Grade Students @ CLS will participate in this study program as part of their Religion Curriculum.  Students who are not taking the class for Confirmation Credit need only to complete items 1-3 below.

INSTRUCTORS:

• Pastor Mike Gibson will teach the 8th Grade Class at Christ Lutheran School on Thursday afternoons.
• Student Ministry Director Kyle Frazier will teach the 7th Grade Class at Christ Lutheran School on Thursday afternoons.
• Pastor Glenn Shelton will teach the Christ Lutheran Church students (non-CLS students) on Wednesdays approximately two times each month.  Pastor Glenn will provide the meeting schedule for the year at the orientation on September 23rd.

CONFIRMATION STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ONE OF ORIENTATION GATHERINGS.

• Thursday, September 24th, 7:00 PM in Room 102 for CL School students.
• Wednesday, September 30th , 7:00 PM in the Fireside Room for CL School students.
• Wednesday, September 23rd, 7:00 PM in the Fireside Room.  This meeting is specifically designed for Christ Lutheran Church students who do not attend Christ Lutheran School.

**Note: Christ Lutheran Church Students who cannot attend this session may attend one of the other two listed above.  Pastor Mike will have the meeting schedule for distribution.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

• ALL students will complete weekly Confirmation worksheets (as assigned) in their lesson binders and return it to the instructors each time they are together.  These worksheets will make use of the New International Version Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism.  These books, plus the 1 Minute Bible are available for purchase in our church bookstore (open before and after worship).  They will not be provided in class.
• ALL students are required to make use of the “1 Minute Bible” and a journal reaction assignment for five out of seven days each week.  The journal reaction forms will be provided in their lesson binders. 
• ALL students will complete the memorization assignments throughout the year.
• Confirmation students will participate in the District Junior High District Gathering on March 6-7, 2010.
• Confirmation students will write Personal Faith Testimonies but only the 8th Graders will present their testimonies as part of a special 6:00 Faith Statement Service on April 25th.  Instructors will work with the students and provide guidelines to assist in writing the testimonies.
• ALL 8th Grader Confirmation Students will complete a one-on-one interview with “their Elder” during the month of April.  Appointments will be established.
• Confirmation Sunday is May 2nd as part of a special 11:15 worship time just for the Confirmation service.
• Confirmation students are to attend a weekly worship service (Sunday morning or evening) and complete the sermon outline in the weekly newsletter.  Students will report their attendance by turning in the outline.  There are three services to choose from each week: 8:00, 9:45 AM and 6:00 PM.
• ALL students are encouraged to participate in Junior High Youth Ministry every Sunday, 4:30-5:45 PM and follow up with youth-focused Sunday night worship at 6PM.
